We stayed in one of the room that had not been upgraded yet but it was still very nice. Food was lovely. The hotel facilities were first class.

Excellent for food, service, location and cleanliness. I would definitely recommend whether as a couple or family, nothing too much trouble for them .

Booked a twin room but were given a double, and as the hotel was fully booked they had nothing to offer us. Not a good start, but Hannah on reception was lovely and very apologetic, and after speaking to the manager offered us a bottle of wine to go with our afternoon tea(which was very nice). Our evening meal was excellent and the service was very good. Breakfast was plentiful but could have been hotter, but all in all a nice break and we would return.

Thank you for a very pleasant stay. Your hotel took us by surprise in its size and quality. Our room was very comfortable with lovely views. Beng able to switch off the towel rail would presumably save you a few pounds and save the rooms becoming over-heated. Lovely menu - though a little variation more often would be appreciated. Evening meals were especially tasty. Need more consistency in quality and presentation though. We close the same menu option on two evenings - one was delicious but the second evening it was very disappointing. Breakfasts also suffered from lack of consistency in quality. Bacon and sausages were overcooked every day with it being inedible on the last day.

Our second visit to this hotel this year so we were obviously satisfied with the service, etc. Our only complaint was with the bedding, which was more suited to a freezing winter than a mild autumn and caused overheating and a uncomfortable night.

Hotel was welcoming. Very good sized room but heating in room and bathroom were not working though it was fixed by our second evening. Staff were very pleasant. Good size portions at dinner. Found some of the hot breakfast items weren't very warm in the hot plates.

We also stayed on the 5th..12th/and 13th. Could not wish for better in every way except that we could not manage the quantity of food and would have liked smaller portions. We called on the 5th on the way up to Scotland and on the 12th and 13th on the way back. The food was superb but smaller amounts would have been helpful but not easy to ask for..

A very pleasant hotel with lovely food and very friendly, helpful staff. Bar prices a bit on the expensive side but that is normal with countryside hotels.

We stayed at the Derwent Manor Hotel as a base for visiting various National Trust properties, of which there are many in the area, including Hadrian's Wall, the ashington ancestral home and Gibside, the one-time residence of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.

Hotel reply...

Thanks yes we agree we are a great place to base youself for seeing all the great local sites.

The bedroom and the views were fabulous. The hotel is spotless and the staff very friendly. The food in the restaurant was very disappointing. We were booked on DBB and asked if it would be possible to change from eating in the reataurant to the bar but told this was not an option. We paid for the bar meal ourselves and the food was lovely. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for an escape but only on a BB basis and pay as you go in the bar.We booked 4 nights but only stayed 2,the hotel jusst charged us for 3

I can understand why this is only a 3* hotel.I couldn't fault the facilities (especially the room upgrade),the welcome or the general service. All were fitting of a higher rated hotel. Unfortunately this was all let down by the restaurant / dining experience. Virtually every hot dish was poorly cooked (actually over cooked and dry), including the (apparently) cooked to order breakfasts. At one point we questioned why one part of a desert dish (shortbread biscuit) was missing despite its inclusion on the menu. Waiter's response was he did not know what was supposed to be served - he just delivered the dishes. A very unsatisfactory and disappointing dining experience due to a lack of ability by kitchen staff to cook properly relatively straight forward dishes. (Extra

Stay was OK, nice large hotel, that seems to cater for various local functions, bit disappointing that we were left to find our room ourselves when we first booked in! Out of all the hotels we have stayed in through classic Britain we feel we were just one in a number here....

Very pleasant stay, good location. Staff very obliging. Potholes in hotel drive are bad. No darts for bar dartboard (trivial but easy to rectify).

Hotel reply...

Our darts are very popular, and keep getting taken home with guests. But rest assured they have been replaced!
