Great hotel. Staff were very helpful especially Amy on reception. Covid measures were evident. Good value for money. Had a sea view room. Only minus was parking were there was a bit of confusion with guests parking in bays assigned to other people. Would recommend .

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights, perfect location for centre of Oban, Room was lovely with a sea view , on 1st floor. As always withers hotels , the staff are the jewel in the crown, they are fantastic, couldn’t do enough to help you, food was amazing, breakfast and evening meal lovely . Loved every second we were here . Yes like every hotel I’ve been in so far it needs updating, but we loved it

Enjoyed our 4 night break here in a seaview room, we have stayed here many times as it's close to town centre and has lovely views across the bay. We had dinner on 2 nights which was good and helpful staff as well and there was entertainment each evening.

Great break, lovely staff, room clean and comfortable, bathroom spotless. Charged £10 instead of £15 for upgrade to sea view: all good. Downside: Food not the best, at dinner the salmon fillet was dried out. Cooked breakfast similar and thought the surcharge of £3 for Eggs Benedict a bit cheeky, it consisted of one egg, half a in, a slice of processed ham and jar/packet hollandaise. I had called to pre book parking but was told parking space was first come first served, although there were lots of spaces when we arrived early, we were told all were allocated. We parked for a small fee in the public car park and were given a hotel space the 2nd day. Otherwise a lovely break which won't break the bank.

Great location right on the sea front with the town centre 5-10 mins walk. Staff were all very helpful and efficient. Food was okay - neither brilliant or bad. If you have a car, it may be worth pre-booking a parking space at the hotel although we did not have a problem getting a parking slot. Room was clean and no issues with . Beds were comfortable. Overall the hotel needs some tlc and a bit of redecoration in most areas, but it’s been a tough year and a bit for hospitality, so money will have been tight. Given the price we paid, the standard of hotel was as we expected so don’t arrive expecting a 5 star experience. Certainly one of the best hotel locations in Oban

Lovely seaview room. Hotel needs a bit <TLC but room was nice and clean bed comfy and shower room nice. Breakfast on first morning disappointing scrambled egg rubbery sausage pink and the tattie scone could have been used as a doorstop! Second morning had the kippers and poached egg on toast very nice. Had evening meal in hotel both nights and it was really nice. The staff are amazing and could not do enough for you. All in all would return. The sea view room amazing.

Rooms were ok as we had upgraded, not enough people serving in dining room so always a bit of a wait with no organisation . people served before others who were seated before them , refused entry to dining room on first night as we were 3 minutes early ! They really need to remove the carpet from the lift walls lift is really small for such a big hotel.

I’ll start with the positives. The staff in the hotel were excellent in everything they did. The food was very nice, no complaints at all. Now to the negative - the state of the hotel itself and especially the room we stayed in, room 307. I will just list the main faults - The room itself was clean, as far it was humanly possible to do. However the ingrained grime surrounding the main light switch and sockets was unbelievable and like the rest of the room looks like it was last decorated in the 1970s. The walls were grubby, curtains shabby and carpet needed a deep clean. The toilet leaked which I reported and this was supposedly repaired but started leaking again within hours. The reception phone in the room was again out of the 1970s, I believe it may have been white when new but was a kind of nicotine yellow with grime on it that could possibly hold the cure for the common cold. There is more I could say but I would like the owners of the hotel to inspect the room for themselves and come back to me to advise if they think it was suitable for customers to stay in. On that suect I tried to contact the hotel owners direct, Coast and Country I believe, to request compensation, but did not receive the courtesy of a reply. You may wonder why I did not complain at the hotel. The reason we didn’t was because we only stayed 2 nights so decided to tough it out as the excellent reception staff were clearly firefighting customer complaints regularly and were obviously in no position to remedy any of the complaints, I actually felt sorry for them. The public areas of the hotel have clearly had a refurb recently but this only masks all the major issues behind the scenes. The floor of the hotel main lift was a sight to behold and would not have been out of place in a car mechanics garage. My final comment is directed to ‘myhotelbreak’ - It does not reflect well on your group that you allow hotels like this to advertise on your site and I suggest you vet the hotels more thoroughly before accepting them. I have used your site to book hotels for some time now, but no longer.

Unfortunately this is very typical of many british Hotels which badly needs major investment and a refurbishment. It has a stunning location and the hard working staff are excellent. The rooms are basic and pretty poor. The fantastic views out to the sea help make up for them, but I'd pity anyone staying in a room without a view. We had one evening meal which was okay, The two breakfasts werer also okay. Would we return? No.

Hotel was a bit tired, but we had a clean & comfortable room with fabulous views. Staff, although very busy, were friendly, helpful and professional. Unfortunately the quality of food let the break down. For a town famous for fresh seafood, we were served fish that could only be described as from the value section of the frozen supplier. Could do so much better & still keep within a budget.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel last week. We had booked 3 nights Bed and Breakfast with Dinner on the first night. The food was of a very poor standard especially the evening meal. There was no al a carte menu available and only 3 choices for each course. My husband and I opted for the fish, we believe that it was frozen fish and not fresh fish. The accompanying vegetables were odd to say the least. Breaded fish with new potatoes, cauliflower and green beans!! The breakfast was okay but I believe it was batch cooked and not cooked to order. The staff were very nice and done their best given the restrictions. The hotel is a bit dated and the bathrooms could be doing with a bit of an upgrade but they have had a very difficult time over the last 16 months or so.

Whilst this hotel has been undergoing some updating it is still very much a “work in progress”. Our rooms were massive, on the lower ground floor and accessed along what really looks like a service corridor. The tv in the room was about a 19” tv which didn’t work (neither did our friends tv in a room two along from us) and there is only WiFi in the public areas. The bathroom is clean as were the towels and the bedding. The beds were comfortable with nice white bedding. My husband tried in vain for an hour on Saturday evening to be served in the lounge bar. Eventually giving up just as a waiter came to take his order. The public areas are nice and the lounge and bar have lovely views. We sat for 45 minutes waiting on our hot food at breakfast on Sunday whilst guests who were seated for only 5/10 minutes were served their cornflakes/yogurt and onto their hot food. When eventually we asked if their was preferential treatment for some guests, ie those on organised tours who had a timetable to adhere to, Archie was shocked we hadn’t been served and we were assured this wasn’t the case. Service on Monday morning was so much better. Breakfast can only be called average. Poor quality ingredients. We had one dinner in the hotel which was decent enough. Although I suddenly took ill and fainted. (Disappointed that I missed the sticky toffee pudding. My friend and her husband missed out on dessert and were gladly supplied it plated and cling filmed to be eaten later) An ambulance was called and I can only thank hotel employee, Archie for his attentiveness. I was also asked the next morning by one of the waitresses if I was feeling better. The staff were friendly, just not enough of them. JJJ was very friendly (full of Irish charm) attempting to get a picture on my friends tv. There is a £6 daily parking charge which we paid as Oban is very limited with parking. I was surprised by this charge but just hadn’t seen it on the website. So my fault. All in all we had a nice weekend with lovely sunny weather. If it had been wet and miserable I think the lack of internet and tv might have been a problem. I don’t think we would rush to return to the Great Western Hotel. Although I know that Oban is very popular and hotels can be quite costly. So, I’m sure that this hotel will always be popular.

Hotel a bit run down. Has clearly seen better days. Food was fine but a bit surprised that at breakfast I was told I could not get for decaf coffee as kitchen could not find kettle !! Staff were nice. Views from bedroom were superb. Price was on the steep side £272 for 2 nights and £26 for bottle of wine. But what a view !!
