Very good hotel in all aspects. Very good for arriving by train with station adjacent to the hotel. Despite being next to the railway station and right next door to a busy sports hotel in the middle of the city, there was very little noise heard at all. Great location for accessing the Castle, Cathedral and right beside the Citadel. Staf very good right fromreception through to restaurant and bar.Food great and good selection. Will recommend to any one of any age.

Only complaint was the room we were given was right above a nightclub. However when we approached the staff we were moved straight away to another room with no hassle whatsoever. I would like to add how pleasant and helpful all the staff were at the hotel and would have no hesitation to return to the hotel.

Our stay last weekend was good. I would complain about the following: 1. The heat in the hotel rooms is atrocious! We tried turning down the heating in the room but the did not seem to work. 2. The food we are on the first night was beautiful. Breakfast however, was a completely different matter. On Saay my husband and myself went for breakfast around 9am. The food was stone cold (well may a little heat but none as you would notice). I asked for my breakfast to be heated up in the microwave but came back just the same. When my husband's brother and his wife came down around half an hour later, the plates that had been put out were soo hot that you had to have at least 6 napkins to hold them ((note- this does not make the food any warmer). I believe that the plates were that hot that one lady dropped hers as her fingers were getting burnt. On Sunday, whilst again the plates were that hot that you needed napkins to attempt any lifting, the food was still the same - COLD! Suggestion: the scrambled egg, fried eggs and beans were hot as they were kept in heated/lidded hotplates. If you had placed all the food available in separate hotplates with lids, then there would not have been a problem and the food would have been warm. Also, the staff that were on seemed to be run off their feet (no fault of their own). A little extra help on these busy dates would not go amiss.

Stayed here a couple of years ago. Enjoyed it, so came back again. Unfortunately, it seems to have gone a bit downhill since last time. Room was rather grotty, especially the bathroom. Silverfish running around the bathroom floor, black mould in the tile grout. Had to pinch a toilet roll of the maid's trolley. Restaurant was particularly poor, especially the customer service. Food disappointing. Fish and Chips with frozen chips, no thanks. Chicken dish extremely dry. Being chased by the 'man in charge' (not 'manager', as these are supposed to be able to manage) asking had I signed the correct bill.

The hotel is undergoing external refurbishment so there is scaffolding everywhere The room allocated on arrival unfortunately had Window jammed open which meant we had to be relocated On attending restaurant the service was so haphazard, being given water and menus tho waited twenty minutes to have order taken The wine selected wasn't chilled as the wine chiller was packed with ice The waitress after our starters thought we were on our mains as we had been in restaurant that long To add insult to injury she brought us desert cutlery then didn't return to offer menu or take orders Eventually fed up we left and when asked for bill they had five preprinted bills none of which pertained to us Service is certainly lacking direction of maitre D

Was told we were being given 'A nice room' because of an error on our booking confirmation.I did say I would expect a nice room to start with! Well that didn't happen! Tired old room but with smell of paint so maybe been repainted recently. Fan in bathroom didn't work. We were woken up at the lovely time of 5.45am on the Sunday morning by workmen making as much noise as possible. They finally went quiet at 7.10am. On check out we were then charged an extra £20 for Saay supplement, only realised this mistake when we arrived home and checked out bill, this was sorted out pretty quickly over the phone, but really shouldn't have happened at all.

They have a ramp at the only entrance which is akin to the piste which Eddie the eagle made his s famous jump the menus was the same each night and they didn't seem to have any chambermaids as our room was not cleaned or our bed made It was not expensive so I shouldn't really complain If you are disabled in any way please do not go here I thought the staff were smiley but I now think they were laughing at us for better my so stupid as to book in here

Stayed here on the 6th October. Fab location right in the city centre next to train station. Stayed on the dinner bed and breakfast deal. The room itself was clean spacious but a little tired, the bathroom however was far from acceptable. All around the shower was mouldy and the shower curtain was about 7 inches to long and slimy at the bottom. The main meal was lovely paid the supplement to have steak and it was cooked perfectly. Breakfast was poor. We arrived at 9am and they had stopped replacing items that were on the buffet breakfast. For example one brown left no fried eggs left and bacon was very dried out. Overall the stat was good but do not stay here if your wanting a quiet break hotel very close to pub/ nightclub and a little noisy until 3am

Great location right outside the train station, great big room although we were looking onto a pub beer garden which was a little noisy, really friendly staff and the food and service was great too, we will definitely be going back.

Poor! Having stayed at this hotel a few months ago and not impressed with room and confusion with the bill when checking out, due to them trying to charge us for drinks from the previous evening, which we had paid for at the bar, we decided to give it another chance due to the location, and was even more disappointed this time.On booking this hotel it said that the hotel car park is limited with first come basis which is fair enough, which I would presume this meant either free to park or cheap parking? On arrival the car park was quiet and hidden around the back with no security or barrier next to the NCP car park which you have to drive through there entrance then exit barriers, to access the hotel parking. When we booked into hotel and enquired about the parking they said it was £10 per day which I think is expensive as the NCP is £8 per day with security! Anyway booked into our room and little better than last time, but again looking out onto a lane same as last time, when it looks as i the front facing rooms with the view are empty? We booked on DBB deal and was told by the waitress that this included 3 courses from the menu with no supplements on the steak after I asked this question. We both had steak which was a poor choice and the service poor. What a shame as the waitresses were nice but very inexperienced. When you ask for ketchup and half dozen of sachets are given to you I think is poor in a hotel restaurant? Also cutlery for sweet placed on table after main course without table being wiped resulting in salt getting on spoons etc. On checking out we were then hit with a extra £34 for steak supplement and sweets as DBB was only 2 courses apparently. When I refused to pay this the receptionist did not argue which was fair enough but again confusion on checking out!! Such a shame as this hotel could be great due to location and restaurant and bar look good but rooms tired and poorly laid out. Toilet poorly laid out with wc in most awkward place it could be? Staff very pleasant but need training. Will try other hotel next time!

I chose this particular hotel as I had stayed here previously and was very satisfied with the experience. Sadly, this time I was very disappointed with the very 'tired' facil . The bathroom had a chipped and cracked wash basin (health and safety?). The net window curtains were extremely dirty ,as was the window sill . High parts of the room had not been dusted, in particular a heating pipe which has around 1 inch of muck on top of it. Fortunately the bed linen and towels were fine.

Apalling from the start. Bookd through myhotelbreak and the hotel did not have the reservation. The receptionist did not know how to deal with booking and just let me standing there until I asked "are you going to tell me what is happening". The hotel did have 3 rooms, but not our booking. We had booked three rooms and took the first room offered - when got to the room, they key card would not work, so we had to go back to reception, returning to the room to find that it had not been serviced. The duty manager cleaned the room, to just a sufficient standard and advised that we would be upgraded the following day at no additional cost. The Breakfast - Morning 1 - the scrambled eggs were green...."oh yes! well they have been there for 2 hours" Morning 2 - there was a hair in one of the breakfast - this was taken away without an apology and 15 minutes later a fresh one brought back with an apology...the rest of the party had finished eating. Before our departure, we wanted to speak to the General Manager who had been on leave until our last day - we were told that the GM was in a meeting and the duty manager could deal with this - each time we asked a question, the duty manager had to go back to the GM for approval...would it not have been easier for the GM to have come and spoken to us directly. This is just a brief summary, but there are many more points that need improvement on.

On arrival I was not told any information on dinner. On arrival to room it overlooked a beer garden which was buzzing as it was a liovely day!! The bathroom is very run down and bedroom furniture looking tired. I began to unpack and found female underwear!! I phoned reception and was told, 'That's bizarre!!!' I was also told that someone would collect which I replied that I had in fact binned it (as it was embarrassing enough).Think we should have been offered complimentary drinks or money off at least. The iron was cracked as someone had obviously dropped it. The tap leaked in bathroom. We were allocated an amount and got to choose from the menu. Although this review is not particularly good, I probably would stay again if the deal was good. The hotel was quite busy as wedding and party on, staff overstretched a bit. Restaurant staff were good.

We paid £15 extra for an executive room which we were very disappointed with. The room was very small and dark with paint peeling over the window. The bathroom was very poor - the bath was patched up and the toilet cistern cover cracked. We queried on arrival if this was actually an executive room but were reassured it was just glad we didn't have a basic room! However we found the room clean and food and service very good. We expressed our disappointment on departure and would not be returning.
