I am really sorry to have to write this review but I’m being honest! We was looking forward to staying here and upon arrival everything seemed ok, checked in and made our way to the room, as soon as we entered there was a spider dangling from the ceiling, the room smelt peculiar, the carpet was dirty there was hairs and black bits in the bed and on the sheet ,the bed was ridiculously small and it wasn’t a standard double bed, the light fitting in the bedroom was hanging out and looked like someone had tried to shove it back in with some sort of substance to hold it which obviously hadn’t worked, there were brown stains on the curtains, the chair in the room was covered in what looked like biscuit crumbs and general dirt, the walls and paintwork were in a terrible state and I know the place was going under refurbishment but surely that had a better room than this one , I went to open the patio doors to find it already unlocked yet there was no key, I had to go to reception to ask only to be told there was no key apart from a master key which she couldn’t give me in case it got lost but would come to the room to lock the doors when we needed it, we found this rather bizarre if I hadn’t opened the doors to let some air in , I would of never known they were unlocked and being close to the car park anyone could if walked in! The wet room looked like it had just been done , nothing spectacular but it was ok , I think they need to look at there finishing touches though or get new builders who care about the details , the way the flooring had been cut around pipes was horrendous, it seemed like it had been rushed, after a long drive and having to clean the bed and chair we decided to stay and give it a chance, we went for dinner in the restaurant and it looked nicely done , looking at the menu if you didn’t order a burger that came with chips you had to order sides separately at a separate cost with any other menu item , £3.50 for a small bowl of horrible tasting chips is extortionate , it was the same if you wanted mash, we found it rather peculiar , food wasn’t the best either not very nice at all and we couldn’t eat it, we left and just went back to the room , we didn’t have the best nights sleep the room was very hot and seemed the mattress was on its last legs, we felt every spring. I went for breakfast on my own, it was a buffet style breakfast , it was resonable except on the cold side, the only thing I can praise about this hotel is the staff they were all friendly and polite, on the way out we encountered the biggest roach I have ever seen in my life scurrying down the hallway ewwww, however it’s safe to say we won’t be staying here again, sorry!

Fabulous night away. Hotel reception, bar and restaurant all well decorated from recent refurbishment. Bedroom was tired! Bed too soft for me but otherwise a fabulous night. We will be booking again and cannot wait to see the refurbished bedrooms in the future

What a lovely hotel, staff friendly, close to the outlet areas and in its own grounds. Could not fault dinner or breakfast, they were happy to accommodate gluten free menu. Would definitely stay again

Had a lovely 2 night stay. Love the refurbished lounge bar and restaurant. I believe some bedrooms have still to be refurbished but our room was lovely and clean albeit a bit small. Hopefully they will install double glazing as at the moment you can still hear the motorway which is nearby. We had a shower room which was fine with a strong shower and big white fluffy towels. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant although not a very big choice. I had rump steak both nights with a choice of different sides. Everything at dinner was freshly made and piping hot. A good choice at the buffet breakfast which included the usual cereal and croissants and cheese and ham. Also the hot buffet had the usual bacon, eggs, sausages, beans, black pudding, haggis and browns. Not forgetting toast which you toasted yourself. On one of the nights of our stay there were 3 coach loads of people staying and the restaurant was very busy but the staff were very efficient and this did not impact on our dining experience. Overall a lovely stay and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

We really enjoyed our stay at Gretna Hall. The staff were very friendly, professional and attentive. The food was excellent. the room was comfortable with a lovely seating area outside which we made the most of as the weather was great. We will definitely consider visiting again in the future. The only downside was the wet room. When showering the whole bathroom floor was flooded. .

The only thing we had a problem with was we wanted to get our dinner allowance off the bar menu so went down at half 6 to order got told need to wait until 7 as a wedding was in for the chef to do them then got told have to wait more as need to feed the people in the restraunt first.

All staff were cheerful, friendly and efficient. Very comfortable beds in rooms which were clean and well maintained. The restaurant menu was quite restrictive, if steak was not wanted, and very small portions of a small range of vegetables were overpriced at £3.50. Why not the more usual vegetables, such as carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, parsnips or peas? The public areas have been most attractively remodelled and the grounds are well maintained. We have visited this hotel many times and hope to return again.

We had a great stay at Gretna Hall for our wedding anniversary. Staff were lovely and it had undergone a recent refurbishment in the main areas. We had the dinner bed and breakfast package, food was excellent, lovely wine and live entertainment which we weren't expecting. We had a great evening, the singer (Brian James) was excellent and finished off a great break for us. Our room was basic (we stayed in a standard double) but was clean, have lovely big fluffy white towels and had a view over the gardens. A great break and we will be booking again for next year :) Beautiful hotel.

A beautiful Hotel set in lovely gardens. The staff were so friendly and helpful on arrival and during our stay. We were upgraded to a suite and what can I say, it was simply stunning! Never in my life have I seen such a beautifully decorated room, it totally took my breath away! The restaurant and bar area were very stylish with the most beautiful lights and lamps all over. The food was absolutely delicious as was the buffet breakfast the next morning. A lovely selection of cereals, juices and pastries as well as the hot options. I couldn't fault anything at all with our overnight stay other than that it was over too quickly.

Our 1 night stay included dinner. The hotel is undergoing extensive modernisation so there was an element of work in progress in our room and in parts of the hotel. Bearing this in mind we understood the challenges and our stay was not advly affected. Our dinner and breakfasts were very enjoyable. Finished plans for the hotel should make this a modern well finished facility.

Very enjoyable stay with extremely friendly staff, good food and comfortable room. Renovations in operation but did not disturb us apart from a few minutes without cold water. Hotel is only a short walk from station and 10 minute walk from outlets. Looking forward to returning when renovations are complete.

Very pleasant stay room was very clean and spacious and well equipped. Hotel is undergoing a major refurbishment which means these cheap deals may not be available in the future. TV had trouble with some cable channels but bonus was that they have hot chocolate on the hospitality tray which all hotels should give. Had DBB deal and had the hotel specialty local salmon served HOT on a crouton but it was cold so the lemon butter was solid. I sent it back but 30 seconds later it was brought back in exactly the same temperature. The Pork T Bone was cooked well and served hot and the Cointreau and Orange Bread and butter was very tasty just sad that it had been microwaved which makes it soggy and there wasn't enough ice cream to taste. Other guests commented that dinner was a lot better than the previous night so it must depend on which chef is on duty. Breakfast was an excellent buffet selection but as usual with breakfast from 7am to 10am they seem to cook everything at 7am and leave it under heaters as so its usually dried out or sat in grease. Friendly breakfast staff though.

Very warm welcome on our arrival at hotel. Room was comfortable and clean. Dinner at night was excellent with a good and varied selection. Breakfast was disappointing, as there was a bus tour staying at hotel breakfast was made fresh for them ,but by 8.30am was lukewarm and very uninviting.

We booked this hotel as it was in our price range and it was a last minute booking for a friends wedding in the area, we found the staff very friendly the rooms very comfortable and the food amazing, but the cherry on the cake was our friends were also staying here we hadn't asked them prior to booking which all together made it a great couple of days

Our room faced north so we could see the motorway traffic flying by but with the window shut there was no noise. The meals at both dinner and breakfast were of a good quality, well cooked and tasty. Be prepared to book for dinner in advance; as there are always bus parties or wedding guests in the hotel which means dinner at certain times is restricted. Wifi is only at present available in the bar -they hope to have it extended to the rooms in the future.
